Hatate problem, Engels dilemma and £5.5m wildcard – How Celtic will line up for Champions League opener

Ange Postecoglou faces several selection dilemmas as he prepares his Celtic team to face Real Madrid in the Champions League opener on Tuesday night.

The Celtic boss must decide whether to risk Reo Hatate, who has been struggling with a knock, and also has a decision to make at left-back, where Greg Taylor is suspended. Josip Juranovic could move across from right-back, with new signing Alexandro Bernabei coming in on the other flank.

In midfield, Matt O'Riley is pushing for a start after impressing in pre-season, while David Turnbull is another option. Callum McGregor is likely to start in the holding role, with Hatate playing ahead of him if he is fit.

Up front, Kyogo Furuhashi is expected to lead the line, with Liel Abada and Jota providing support. Daizen Maeda is another option for the wide areas, while Giorgos Giakoumakis could be used as an impact substitute.

Celtic will be without several key players for the game against Real Madrid, including Tom Rogic, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt. However, Postecoglou still has a number of options at his disposal and will be confident of getting a positive result against the European champions.
