Largest ever cohort of women authors shortlisted for 2024 Booker

The 2024 Booker Prize longlist has been announced, and it features a record-breaking number of women authors. Thirteen of the 13 longlisted authors are women, making up the largest ever cohort of women on the Booker longlist.

This year's longlist is also notable for its diversity, with authors from all over the world represented. The longlisted authors come from the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, and Nigeria.

The Booker Prize is one of the most prestigious literary awards in the world, and it is awarded to the best novel written in English and published in the UK or Ireland. The winner of the 2024 Booker Prize will be announced on October 16, 2024.

  • The Narrow Land by Christine Dwyer Hickey
  • Case Study by Graeme Macrae Burnet
  • The Ink Black Heart by Robert Galbraith
  • The Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki
  • Happy-Go-Lucky by David Sedaris

The Booker Prize jury is chaired by Neil MacGregor, and the other judges are:

  • Helen Castor
  • Moshin Hamid
  • Shaheen Bhatt
  • Douglas Stuart

The jury said that the longlist is "a testament to the extraordinary range and diversity of fiction being published today." They added that they were "particularly impressed by the number of women authors on the longlist, which is a reflection of the changing face of literature."
