Volleyball Today: Huskers hold off Creighton; SMU tops Baylor; 28 kills for Li

Huskers hold off Creighton in five-set thriller

No. 3 Nebraska had to battle back from an 0-2 deficit to defeat Creighton 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18, 15-8) in a non-conference match on Wednesday night in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Bluejays took the first two sets, but the Huskers rallied to win the next three and improve to 5-0 on the season. Madi Kubik led Nebraska with 21 kills, while Ally Batenhorst added 15 kills and Whitney Lauenstein had 13 kills.

Creighton fell to 2-2 on the season. Jaali Winters led the Bluejays with 16 kills, while Norah Sis had 13 kills and Elissa Alcantara had 12 kills.

SMU tops Baylor in four sets

SMU defeated No. 17 Baylor 3-1 (25-19, 27-25, 19-25, 25-21) in a non-conference match on Wednesday night in Waco, Texas.

The Mustangs improved to 4-1 on the season, while the Bears fell to 2-2.

SMU was led by hitter Chloe Willet, who had 18 kills. Morgan Heise added 13 kills for the Mustangs, while setter Jadyn Bauss had 43 assists.

Baylor was led by hitter Avery Skinner, who had 15 kills. Shelly Fanning added 14 kills for the Bears, while setter Hannah Sedwick had 35 assists.

28 kills for Li

Stanford outside hitter Kendall Kipp had 28 kills in the Cardinal's 3-1 victory over No. 11 Oregon on Wednesday night in Palo Alto, California.

The Cardinal improved to 4-0 on the season, while the Ducks fell to 2-2.

Kipp hit .444 for the match and also had 10 digs.

Oregon was led by hitter Brooke Nuneviller, who had 17 kills. Setter Willow Johnson had 36 assists for the Ducks.
